YAKU AMAZON  TEAM

Victor Coelho

Victor is an owner of Yaku Amazon Lodge and a native of the Amazon.  He was born and raised in the Aucayacu Village, which is located along the Ucayali River that feeds into the Amazon River.  Leaving the village at age 16 for Iquitos to serve in the Army was his chance to expand his opportunities.  However, he always remained passionate about the desire to share the wonders of the rainforest with others.  Thus, he learned survivor skills in the Army, English at a Language Studies school, worked as a Naturalist at several jungle lodges and on luxury Amazon cruise boats sharing his love of the jungle with people from all over the world including celebrities.  After acquiring 18 years of experience, Victor began building Yaku Amazon Lodge & Expeditions.  His dream became reality with Yaku Amazon for guests to experience the flora and fauna of the rainforest, while also preserving and protecting the Amazon.

Julie Miller

Julie’s first visit to the Peruvian Amazon in 2004.  From the moment she began her journey on the majestic Amazon River into the rainforest, she was enamored with the animals, the forest and the local people.  As an United States public school science teacher with a Biology background, Julie knew this was an experience to be shared with students and adults.  She found herself returning to the Amazon two to three times a year, to capture more photos and videos, and to learn more about the flora, fauna, and villages to continue to share with others the beauty and importance of conserving the Amazon.  Julie learned of the dream of building Yaku Amazon and helped them to create a unique and special place where people have a once in a lifetime experience while learning about the importance of the Amazon.

Usiel Vasquez

Before migrating to Iquitos with his family in search of a better education, Usiel  already had begun his life-long love affair with the rainforest, fishing in lakes, gathering wild fruits and learning about the surrounding jungle.  While attending high school in Iquitos, he would venture to the main square on weekends, determined to practice his English while mingling with tourists.  For more than two decades, Usiel has worked as a rainforest guide, and has assisted researchers and scientists while deepening his knowledge of Biology and Botany.

Donaldo Navarro Zamora

Donaldo studied English, Tourism and Biology at the Institute El Milagro in Iquitos city and graduated with certification as Official Guide of Biodiversity.  He works as a rainforest guide and worked as a field research assistant to Rose Hores’ study of uakari monkeys and Fredrik Tegner’s study of parental behavior in poison dart frogs.

Lisser Tananta

Lisser studied English in 2005 and 2006 at UK Britanico – English Institute.  In 2008, he began promoting the Amazon River as one of the 7 Wonders of Nature with the local government.  He guides in the Amazon rainforest at Yarapa River, Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve, the Amazon River Basin, and El Dorado Lake.  He is working on courses to learn more about the amphibians in the rainforest.
