Tour the largest market in the city of Iquitos, located in the upper part of the Belen market where you have the opportunity to view many of the different products that come from the jungle. Learn about the seasonal tropical fruits, different species of fish in the Amazon (3,000 species studied by scientists), and regional dishes. Visit the green pharmacy “Pasaje Paquito” to see and learn about the different species of medicinal plants that local people and healers use for healing.
Walk down to the lower part of Belen to see and visit the the Venice Loretana.
We board a typical boat to observe and learn how the local people perform their daily chores in the houseboats with streets underwater.
Taking a typical Iquitos taxi, we travel to the CREA Amazonian Rescue Center. Here we find one of the four species of manatees in the world. However, the Amazonian manatee is the only species that lives in the fresh water. A local biologist will guide this tour.
A stop for a typical local lunch.
A visit to the Quistococha zoo where you will find species of animals that exist throughout our Amazon region. This may include jaguars, anacondas, monkeys, tapirs, peccaries, caimans, herons, horned screamers, capybaras, macaws, river otters, ocelots, fish, etc. There is also a beach at Quistococha where you may swim.

Return to Iquitos
05:00 p.m.
Take a city tour of the old buildings dating from the rubber boom era. This includes the Iron House designed by the famous French architect Gustave Eiffel, the former 5-star “Palace” Hotel now a Peruvian army recruitment office, Main Matriz Cathedral or Mother Church and other buildings.
If you are not interested in the old buildings you can visit 2 museums, a historical ship museum that data from the rubber boom era and the indigenous museum that shares information and the customs on the different tribes that existed in the past and that currently exist.
