Ecotourism

Yaku Amazon Lodge has an ecological vocation, and we fight for the preservation and protection of the environment, in collaboration with Ayacucho village with rich ancestral knowledge.  We support ecotourism by providing employment to the local community, protecting the environment and enriching personal experiences and environmental awareness to all.  We collaborated with local architects in the building of our lodge.  Ecotourism has a positive impact on local villages and the environment.  People are living in good harmony with nature, as it was in the past.  The local people make their plantations for their own subsistance using mainly the alluvial soil brought from the Peruvian Andes being one of the richest soils on earth.  Thus, locals harvest 100% organic products and Yaku Amazon Lodge contributes by buying part of these goods.  Local people are provided high quality job training and employment at the lodge.

Yaku Amazon Lodge also collaborates with the Nevada Building Hope Foundation to providing educational support, and humanitarian aid to the people living in our local communities:  Ayacucho, San Juan de Yanayacu, and Junin.  As a member of the Nevada Building Hope Board, Yaku Amazon has a strong commitment to the cause, a willingness to use resources to advance the mission, and supports the organization’s activities.

Yaku Amazon Lodge is within the Tamshiyacu-Tahuayo National Reserve in the confluence of the Yanayacu and Amazon River.  The lodge is facing a beautiful black water oxbow lake.  It is located  in the heart of the primary flooded forest, rich in biodiversity, making it the ideal place to discover the flora and fauna of the Amazon.  In this landscape, the meeting of two legendary rivers are inhabited by freshwater pink and grey dolphins.  The forest is full of hundreds of colorful and amazing birds.  The lodge is surrounded by many black water lakes filled with water lilies, caimans, anacondas, turtles and other animals in the area.  The only Institution that works with fresh water manatees in Peru is CREA, as manatees are near extinction in the Amazonia and CREA has released several manatees in our area.

It is as close to western standards as possible:  each bungalow includes a private tiled bathroom, 24-hour water,  and a private balcony facing the black water lake.  WiFi is absent from our lodge, allowing our guests to disconnect from the modern world and  reside in harmony with the spirit of the forest and nature.  Electricity is available in the main and private bungalows to charge electronic devices.

To protect the natural environment, our sewer system goes to a septic tank, organic waste is composted or used as fertilizer,  and the remaining trash is taken to Iquitos, where some items may be recycled.
