We then board a comfortable boat with a powerful, new engine to navigate the longest, widest and most voluminous river in the world – the mightiest river \u201cAmazonas.\u201d\u00a0 We then navigate a tributary of the Amazon the Yanayacu River to reach our lodge. Upon arrival, passengers will be welcomed with a typical tropical drink and shown to their respective bungalows.<\/p>\n Lunch<\/strong><\/p>\n Walk behind the lodge in primary and seasonally flooded forest to learn about the biodiversity of the flora and fauna.\u00a0 Find medicinal plants and learn the many uses, including treatments for headaches, stomachaches, arthritis, prostate cancer, tuberculosis, etc.\u00a0 \u00a0Taste the water from a wooden vine known as cat\u2019s claw, Uncaria tomentosa<\/em>.\u00a0 Cat\u2019s claw is a traditional medicine used by indigenous people to treat asthma, inflammation, arthritis, cancer, and AIDS.<\/p>\n Discover different species of monkeys, such as squirrel monkeys and the red howlers who are the heaviest primates in the rainforest and the loudest land animal in the world whose deafening roar can be heard many kilometers away.\u00a0\u00a0 Also, search for birds (the wattled curassows \u2013 believed to be extinct 40 years ago, parrots, trogons, fly catchers, antbirds, etc.), insects, reptiles, amphibians, tamanduas, jaguar tracks and much more! \u00a0While searching, listen to the distinctive noises of the rainforest from insects, birds, monkeys, frogs, and possibly the roar of a distant jaguar.<\/p>\n Dinner<\/strong><\/p>\n A boat night tour on Corrientes lake to find caimans – one of the predatory species of the Amazon, fishing bats, night herons, tarantulas, different species of amphibians, potoos, nightjars, fireflies, arahuana or dragon fish, etc.<\/p>\n Gaze and marvel at the stunning stars creating the constellations of the Southern Hemisphere.\u00a0 Visible is a band of white light arching across the night sky \u2013 an awe-inspiring view of the Milky Way.<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text Breakfast<\/strong><\/p>\n Travel to the black water lakes Corrientes and Oj\u00e9 by boat, and then explore these lakes rowing in a wooden canoe.\u00a0 Search for iguanas, three-toed sloths – the slowest mammals of the planet, squirrel monkeys, cormorants, herons, kingfishers, parrots, horned screamers, blue and yellow macaws, black collared hawks, great black\u00ad hawks, vultures, toucans, etc.<\/p>\n Lunch<\/strong><\/p>\n After lunch, depart for an afternoon and evening adventure along the lakes Corrientes, Purura and the Yanayaku tributary.\u00a0 It starts with a boat trip in search of birds:\u00a0 horned screamers, tapaculos, horneros, parrots, muscovy ducks, cormorants, jacanas, blue and yellow macaws, etc.<\/p>\n Disembark the boat for a walk in Igapo forest, seasonally flooded primary jungle, to find land animals.\u00a0 Our search includes the pygmy marmoset \u2013 the smallest primate in the world, tamarin monkeys, titi monkeys, and other species of monkeys, reptiles \u2013 lizards and snakes, small frogs and large bullfrogs \u2013 favorite food of anacondas, bullet ants \u2013 the most painful ant sting on the planet, tarantulas and other spiders, scorpions, crickets and other insects, porcupines and jaguar tracks.\u00a0 With luck, our search may include seeing a jaguar or hearing its roar in the distance.\u00a0 They have the strongest jaws and most powerful bite of any cat species with 2000 pounds of force!\u00a0 This is enough to break a turtle\u2019s thick shell or easily puncture and crush bone.<\/p>\n While walking, you will be amazed at the huge size of the kapok or Lupuna tree Ceiba pentandra <\/em>as it towers over the other rainforest vegetation.\u00a0\u00a0 The kapok tree can reach up to 60 meters in height and grow as much as 4 meters per year.\u00a0 This large tree is known for kapok, which is cotton-like, water-resistant fiber, harvested from the seedpods.\u00a0 At one time, kapok was popular for being used to stuff mattresses, life jackets, and pillows.\u00a0<\/p>\n After the walk, we board the boat to observe the beautiful Amazon sunset!\u00a0 The sky begins to illuminate a spectrum of colors from violets and blues to oranges and reds.\u00a0 We then slowly navigate the water to search for caimans, night herons, potoos, fishing bats, nocturnal fish, monkey fish, arahuana fish, insects, and capybaras \u2013 the largest and heaviest rodent on the planet, an adult male can weigh up to 60 kg!\u00a0<\/p>\n Dinner<\/strong><\/p>\n Relax and listen to the night sounds of the forest.<\/p>\n seasonally flooded Igapo and Varzea forests such as roadside hawks, black collared hawks, great black hawks, kites, cormorants, terns, skimmers, stilts, caracaras, cuckoos, woodpeckers, woodcreepers, nunbirds, etc.<\/p>\n Walk in the terra firma rainforest along the Amazon River in search of different species of poisonous dart frogs, mimicking toad-like frogs, leaf toads, cane toads, leafcutter ants, antbirds, pygmy owls, fruit crows, squirrel monkeys, tamarin monkeys, bullet ants, etc.<\/p>\n Experience lunch with a native family in the community of San Pedro during high water season.\u00a0 If you visit the Amazon during low water season, lunch is along one of the Amazon beaches with a beautiful view.\u00a0 Both are unique experiences!\u00a0 Lunch will include chicken barbeque, potatoes, fruit, and drinking water.\u00a0<\/p>\n Continue exploring on the boat to observe birds along the beaches of the Amazon, such as stilts, sandpipers, skimmers, terns, egrets, cormorants, wood storks, jabirus, sand colored nightjars, migratory birds etc.<\/p>\n Observe one of the most beautiful species of the Amazon River, the grey and pink dolphins.\u00a0 While the dolphins are nearby, you may monkeys \u2013 the smartest primates in the world, squirrel monkeys, other species of monkeys, turtles, and many birds – blue and yellow macaws, parrots, vultures, toucans, wattled curassows \u2013 believed to be extinct 40 years ago, anhingas, trogons, tanagers, pigeons, doves, anis, capaculos, cuckoos, fly catchers, woodpeckers, nunbirds, different species of kingfishers, anacondas and much more!<\/p>\n Fishing for the most ferocious and aggressive fish of the Amazon \u2013 the piranhas!\u00a0 You may also catch cichlids, oscars, catfish, etc.<\/p>\n Breakfast<\/strong> served on the boat.\u00a0\u00a0It may include fruits, hard-boiled eggs, sandwiches, cookies, hot water for tea and coffee, water, depending upon any dietary restrictions.<\/p>\n Lunch<\/strong><\/p>\n An afternoon and evening walk along and around the Ipahuantillo Lake in search of the prehistoric looking Hoatzin, the only species of bird that is ruminant with a multi-chambered digestive tract.\u00a0 This digestion causes a strong, foul odor, giving them the nickname \u201cstinkbird\u201d.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n Other sightings may include birds (donacobius, anis, tanagers, kites, hawks, anhingas, We encourage you to bring supplies (pencils, colored pencils, crayons, pens, notebooks, metric rulers, art supplies, puzzles, books, toothpaste, toothbrushes, hair clips, etc.) for optional donations to the students and school. Shop their handmade crafts, which use products such as seeds collected in the forest and palm fiber. This is a way to contribute to the local economy and halt deforestation, since these people now protect forests for the usefulness of their crafts.<\/p>\n If the water is low, there is an opportunity to play a game of soccer with the friendly villagers.<\/p>\n View one of the largest aquatic plants in the world, the Victoria Regia Water Lilies.\u00a0 The gigantic floating leaves can measure up to
